Discounted Designer: Where I purchase designer gems heavily discounted

Millennials often have a bad reputation, but we keep the economy going. According to the Financial Times, Millennials are the "world's most powerful consumers". Millennials make up approximately 25% of the American population, but spend a staggering $600 billion per year on shopping. This number is projected to reach $1.4 trillion by 2020. I hate to admit that I've added thousands (covers eyes), possibly tens of thousands to that $600 billion over the years.

I'm a recovering shopaholic. I'm not sure when my love for fashion started. My mom often tells stories about me combing through clothing racks as a toddler at the major department stores. Fast forward to my teenage years, my mom and I often bonded over shopping and lunch at our favorite mall on the weekends. Every birthday, I curated the perfect birthday list that often had a designer bag at the top spot. I would get everything I wanted on the list as long as I did well in school. I was incentivized at a young age, which is probably the reason why I'm such a nerd now.

Although my mom and I love to shop, we are keen on finding the best deals. We shop at the Saks "Fourth of July " and "Day after Christmas" sales faithfully. During these times, Saks discounts a selection of shoes, bags, and clothing up to 70% off. We LOVE outlet malls, our favorite being Woodbury Commons in New York which has every designer you can think of from Burberry and Prada to Seven for all mankind.

However, as an avid shopaholic who can't always be in New York or wait on Saks's bi-yearly sales, I've found some online alternatives. My favorite is United Apparel Liquidators.

This shopping destination is a TRUE gem. I came across this Instagram page via a fellow Instagrammer @fashion_sherlock in early December and was instantly intrigued. United Apparel Liquidators is a liquidation business. Meaning, they purchase overstock and past season goods directly from major department stores , such as Saks and Neiman Marcus, and samples from designers. They purchase the merchandise heavily discounted, therefore they are able to sell the pieces heavily discounted, sometimes up to 90% off. One downfall is that pieces are extremely limited. They may only have one size in the piece you desire.

I found myself stalking their Instagram page daily to see if I could find gems in my size. I shopped with them for the first time on December 26th, 2018. They uploaded a gorgeous Marchesa gown for $365 retail $6995. I didn't plan on going to a ball anytime soon, but I had to have it.

I purchased a neon green jacket by L'Agence for $45 retail $360 and the matching jeans for $75 retail $225.

Keep scrolling to see the gems that I didn't buy.

You can find them on instagram @shopual and www.store.shopual.com
